Label Love in a Wildflower Meadow

This card uses items from Stampin' Up!'s new catalog including two new stamp sets, Wildflower Meadow and Label Love, and the Artisan Label punch.  I colored the Wildflower Meadow stamp with Stampin' Write Markers in Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive.  Each marker has both a brush tip and fine tip.  The brush tip makes it easier to color the rubber stamp.  I then lightly spritzed the stamp with water and stamped on Whisper White card stock.

The Artisan Label punch coordinates with the Label Love stamp set.  I used both to make the sentiment.

This card is for my friend, Gail Peterson, who passed away unexpectedly this week.  Gail loved many things including God, family, friends and crafting.  They had several of the scrapbooks she had made along with this sign displayed at the church.

At her memorial service, many people mentioned how special it felt to receive her handmade gifts and cards. It was a good reminder of how handmade gifts and cards can make a difference.

Modern Mosaic Visits the International Bazaar

Stampin' Up!'s Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder and Mosaic punch are two of my current favorites from the new 2013 - 2014 catalog.  I made this card to celebrate that Stampin' Up! has an overlap between two catalogs for the next three days.  In the past, you could not buy items from both catalogs at the same time.

The colors in this project are Tangerine Tango, Lucky Limeade, Pacific Point, Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla.  Lucky Limeade has been a favorite green for many of my Stampin' Up! friends and it is on the retiring list.

The sentiment comes from one of my favorite stamp sets, Sassy Salutations.  Sassy describes the font used with this set perfectly.

OWH Memorial Day Bloghop Card: Faux Verdigris

Here is my Operation Write Home Memorial Day Bloghop card featuring a faux verdigris technique and OWH sketch #68.  Get more details about the faux verdigris technique and sketch.

After many comments about the Memorial Day Poppy, I wanted to share some history.  During World War I, a battle zone was described by an American pilot as a “brown belt, a strip of murdered Nature.”  In April and May of 1815, poppies began to appear in clusters around these battered fields. Their bright, vivid color was a sign of life in an otherwise barren area.

In 1918, an American woman, Moina Belle Michael, vowed that the poppy would become an emblem for “keeping the faith with all who died.”

While I remember getting Memorial Day cards with red poppies as a child, I didn’t fully understand the meaning of the red poppies.  The many comments about the flower on my card inspired me to share this story about Memorial Day Poppies.

Faux Verdigris Tutorial

Here is the tutorial for my Operation Write Home Memorial Day Bloghop card featuring a faux verdigris technique and OWH sketch #68.

This is the sketch I used from Operation Write Home's sketches.  Whenever I have lost my creative mojo, I find that looking through sketches will often get my creativity going again.

The faux verdigris technique was inspired by a tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.  I modified the technique by changing the colors.

After using Stampin' Up!'s new Modern Mosaic embossing folder (129984  $7.95) on Very Vanilla card stock, I sponged Tempting Turquoise classic ink randomly across the card stock.  Be sure to leave some white areas and create some areas that are darker.  You can see this step on the left side of the picture.  Then sponge Always Artichoke across the entire piece of card stock as shown on the right side of the picture.  There should be some areas with only Tempting Turquoise, some only Always Artichoke and others with a blending of the two colors.

Add Calypso Coral in a few places.  Then darken the edges and some random areas with Soft Suede.  You can always go back and add more Tempting Turquoise, Always Artichoke, Calypso Coral or Soft Suede to fit your artist's eye.  I loved how the edges of the Modern Mosaic pattern really showed up with the sponging.  The last optional step is to lightly tap Versamark ink on the entire piece and add gold embossing powder.

The flower is made using Stampin' Up!'s This and That Epic Day Designer Series Paper (130814  $10.95).   I used the following punches:  Blossom (125603  $16.95), 1 1/4" Scallop Circle (127811  $15.95), 7/8" Scallop Circle (129404  $12.95).  The center of the flower is one of the Antique Brads (117273  $5.95).  This is my favorite collection of brads!

The sentiment comes from Stampin' Up!'s Lacy and Lovely stamp set (122887  $17.95).  This is a versatile stamp set that I have used for many different projects including this Live in the Sunshine card.

Summer Silhouettes With Washi Tape

This card uses Stampin' Up!'s Summer Silhouettes stamp set, Epic Day This and That Washi Tape and coffee filter paper.  I CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) the background for this card and added the butterfly embellishment.

Washi Tape is so easy to use.  It is a removable tape that is easy to tear.  Because it has a slick surface, I used Staz On to stamp the sentiment.  Here are the 3 Washi Tapes that are sold as a bundle.  Stampin' Up! will be adding more  patterns in different coordinating colors.

The butterfly is made with coffee filter paper!  After trying several different papers, I decided to go with coffee filter paper.  If you've been following me for a while, you know it's one of my go-to items.  I used the Elegant Butterfly and Bitty Butterfly punches.  Remember when punching out coffee filter paper that you'll want to fold the coffee filter so that you are punching through multiple layers at the same time.  Otherwise the coffee filter paper tends to tear when you try to punch it out.

I used two of the 2012 - 2013 In Colors that will become regular colors with the new catalog that starts in just a few days on June 1.  Pool Party was one of my favorite colors so I'm glad it's staying.  And it coordinates so well with Calypso Coral.  The leaves are stamped with Crumb Cake which is a wonderful neutral color.

Pleasant Poppies Using White Craft Ink Technique

Stampin' Up!'s Pleasant Poppies stamp is a wonderful way to feature the white craft ink technique.  I loved this stamp set when I first saw it because it reminded me of the poppies I have growing in my garden in the spring.

For the white craft ink technique, first heat emboss a lined image with white embossing powder on a darker card stock.  Most of the samples I have seen are on Crumb Cake card stock.  Then color in the image with Stampin' Up!'s Whisper White craft ink and let dry.  Craft ink is quite thick, so you'll need to use an Aqua Painter or a paint brush with a little water.  Let the ink dry thoroughly which will take some time.

After the craft ink is dry, paint over the Whisper White craft ink with the colors of your choice. You can use an Aqua Painter, paint brush or Stampin' Write Marker to color in the images.  I used Stampin' Up!'s Classic Inks in Calypso Coral and Tangerine Tango to paint these poppies.

The sentiment is from Petite Pairs which IMHO is one of Stampin' Up!'s most versatile stamp sets. It is a must have for any Stampin' Up! fan.

My friend, Marilyn Young, made this card using Stampin' Up!'s Secret Garden stamp set for one of our demonstrator swaps.  She used the same Whisper White craft ink technique.  With the coordinating framelits, die cutting this flower is quick.  I love how she entwined the two flowers with each other. You can buy Stampin' Up!'s Secret Garden stamp set and Secret Garden Framelits as a bundle or separately.

My downline, Karen Hale, made this card using Pleasant Poppies and the more traditional method of coloring an image stamped on Whisper White card stock.

Have fun playing with this white craft ink technique and finding different ways to use the Pleasant Poppies stamp set. Visit my online store to get your supplies for this project.  Remember that when you purchase $25 or more in product, you are eligible for my Rewards Program.
